This Week’s Worship Songs:
Christ is Risen
Yes I Will
Build My Life
It Is Well

CALL TO WORSHIP: O God of Truth (from Valley of Vision)

O GOD OF TRUTH,

I thank thee for the holy Scriptures,
    their precepts, promises, directions, light.
In them may I learn more of Christ,
be enabled to retain his truth
and have grace to follow it.
Help me to lift up the gates of my soul
    that he may come in
and show me himself when I search
    the Scriptures,
for I have no lines to fathom its depths,
no wings to soar to its heights.
By his aid may I be enabled to explore
    all its truths,
love them with all my heart,
embrace them with all my power,
  engraft them into my life.
Bless to my soul all grains of truth garnered
    from thy Word;
  may they take deep root,
  be refreshed by heavenly dew,
  be ripened by heavenly rays,
be harvested to my joy and thy praise.
Help me to gain profit by what I read,
  as treasure beyond all treasure,
a fountain which can replenish my dry heart,
its waters flowing through me as a perennial river
    on-drawn by thy Holy Spirit.
Enable me to distil from its pages faithful prayer
that grasps the arm of thy omnipotence,
  achieves wonders, obtains blessings,
and draws down streams of mercy.
From it show me how my words have often been
    unfaithful to thee,
    injurious to my fellow-men,
empty of grace, full of folly,
    dishonouring to my calling.
Then write thy own words upon my heart
    and inscribe them on my lips;
So shall all glory be to thee
in my reading of thy Word!

This Sunday’s Songs:

CALL TO WORSHIP: PSALM 99

The Lord reigns; let the peoples tremble!
He sits enthroned upon the cherubim; let the earth quake!
The Lord is great in Zion;
he is exalted over all the peoples.
Let them praise your great and awesome name!
    Holy is he!
The King in his might loves justice.a]
    You have established equity;
you have executed justice
    and righteousness in Jacob.
Exalt the Lord our God;
    worship at his footstool!
    Holy is he!

Moses and Aaron were among his priests,
Samuel also was among those who called upon his name.
They called to the Lord, and he answered them.
In the pillar of the cloud he spoke to them;
    they kept his testimonies
and the statute that he gave them.

O Lord our God, you answered them;
you were a forgiving God to them,
but an avenger of their wrongdoings.
Exalt the Lord our God,
    and worship at his holy mountain;
for the Lord our God is holy!

This Sunday’s Songs:

Yes I Will

He Knows My Name

CALL TO WORSHIP, from the Valley of Vision, Banner Truth

Streams upon streams of love overflow my path.
Thou hast made me out of nothing,
hast recalled me from a far country,
hast translated me from ignorance to knowledge,
      from darkness to light,
      from death to life,
      from misery to peace,
      from folly to wisdom,
      from error to truth,
      from sin to victory.
Thanks be to thee for my high and holy calling.
I bless thee for ministering angels,
for the comfort of thy Word,
for the ordinances of thy church,
for the teaching of thy Spirit,
  for thy holy sacraments,
  for the communion of saints,
  for Christian fellowship,
for the recorded annals of holy lives,
  for examples sweet to allure,
  for beacons sad to deter.
Thy will is in all thy provisions
to enable me to grow in grace,
and to be meet for thy eternal presence.
My heaven-born faith gives promise of eternal sight,
my new birth a pledge of never-ending life.
I draw near to thee, knowing thou wilt draw near
    to me.
I ask of thee, believing thou hast already given.
I entrust myself to thee, for thou hast redeemed me.
I bless and adore thee, the eternal God,
for the comfort of these thoughts,
    the joy of these hopes.

SCRIPTURE READING, 2 Corinthians 1:3-11

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too. If we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; and if we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which you experience when you patiently endure the same sufferings that we suffer. Our hope for you is unshaken, for we know that as you share in our sufferings, you will also share in our comfort.

For we do not want you to be unaware, brothers, of the affliction we experienced in Asia. For we were so utterly burdened beyond our strength that we despaired of life itself. Indeed, we felt that we had received the sentence of death. But that was to make us rely not on ourselves but on God who raises the dead. He delivered us from such a deadly peril, and he will deliver us. On him we have set our hope that he will deliver us again. You also must help us by prayer, so that many will give thanks on our behalf for the blessing granted us through the prayers of many.

Welcome back! I hope your Easter was joyful, despite the circumstances.

It will feature some of the elements we would normally have during a Sunday Gathering. Pick someone to do the prayers and readings or take turns…the main thing is to participate in, and renew your heart in worship.

This Sunday’s Songs:

CALL TO WORSHIP

Our call to worship is from Micah 6:8:
                God has told you, O mortal, what is good;
and what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,
and to walk humbly with your God?

Let’s pray:

It is good to be together, God,
in this place, with these people, at this time,
together listening for your voice.
In this hour of worship
tell us about your kingdom of kindness
so that we can seek it.
Show us your justice.
We want to walk with you,
humbly, closely, daily.
Amen.

SCRIPTURE READING, Acts 1

So when they had come together, they asked him, “Lord, will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?” He said to them, “It is not for you to know times or seasons that the Father has fixed by his own authority.

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” And when he had said these things, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight.

10 And while they were gazing into heaven as he went, behold, two men stood by them in white robes, 11 and said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking into heaven? This Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”

This Sunday’s Songs:

CALL TO WORSHIP

The golden dawn has spread her rays,
The heavens now resound in praise,
The earth exalts in jubilee
While Darkness groans in agony.

Although enclosed beneath a stone,
Well sealed and guarded carefully,
He rose triumphant in his might,
The glorious Victor over death.

Redeemer Jesus, mighty King,
You rose from death that we might live
And share your love with those in need:
Your gifts of grace and mercy give. Amen.

SCRIPTURE READING, “AN EMPTY TOMB”

NARRATOR: Now on the first day of the week Mary Magdalene came to the tomb early, while it was still dark, and saw that the stone had been taken away from the tomb. So she ran and went to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved, and said to them,

MARY: “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid him.”

NARRATOR: …Mary stood weeping outside the tomb, and as she wept she stooped to look into the tomb. And she saw two angels in white, sitting where the body of Jesus had lain, one at the head and one at the feet.

ANGEL: They said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping?”

MARY: She said to them, “They have taken away my Lord, and I do not know where they have laid him.”

NARRATOR: Having said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing, but she did not know that it was Jesus. Jesus said to her,

JESUS: “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you seeking?”

MARY: Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.”

NARRATOR : Jesus said to her,

JESUS: “Mary.”

MARY: She turned and said to him in Aramaic, “Rabboni!” (which means Teacher)

JESUS: Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to me, for I have not yet ascended to the Father; but go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’”

MARY: Mary Magdalene went and said these things to the disciples and announced to them, “I have seen the Lord.

INTRODUCTION

[READ] Through this Redeemed sermon series, we have looked at a few of the tougher areas of life, applying the redemptive work of Christ to it. Today we conclude this series on the topic of Emotions. This topic is important when in the church calendar year we look at the Passion of Jesus Christ as we turn toward Easter. May your faith be strengthened now, particularly in the area of your emotional life. If you are in Christ, you can be confident that you can face your emotions, respond accordingly, and act always in faith.

CALL TO WORSHIP

[PRAY] “Heavenly Father, we come before you now to worship you in these moments. For you are worthy of our time, our attention, indeed our entire lives. Forgive us O God, where we have failed in that this past week. Where we have ignored your Spirit. Where we have ignored what was going on in our hearts. May our lives, individually and together, be made living sacrifices unto you, in life and with no fear of death. Father we pray for people all around the world facing the Coronavirus. You are a God who identifies with the suffering of the world. We love you. We trust you. May all the nations turn to you. May you heal our lands. May this historic event draw your peoples around the world together in praise, in Jesus’ name, Amen.”

PSALM READING

“Have mercy on me, O God, according to your steadfast love; according to your abundant mercy blot out my transgressions.

Wash me thoroughly from my iniquity, and cleanse me from my sin!

Behold, you delight in truth in the inward being, and you teach me wisdom in the secret heart.

Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.

Cast me not away from your presence, and take not your Holy Spirit from me.

Restore to me the joy of your salvation, and uphold me with a willing spirit.”

May we trust in the Lord’s provision during this time, for our individual needs and also for our church’s needs. You can give online at bethelfree.com/give or by mail.

REFLECTION AND RESPONSE

Take a few minutes to be quiet before the Lord. Where do you need to trust God as it relates to your emotional life? Where is the Spirit leading you to repent? What questions do you still have? Who can you talk to? Continue your reflection and study using the discussion guide.

MARCH 29

in Worship |

The purpose of this resource is to walk your family, a few friends, or a small group through a gospel worship liturgy from where ever you are. It will feature some of the elements we would normally have in a worship service. Pick someone to do the prayers and readings or take turns…the main thing is to participate in, and renew your heart in worship.

INTRODUCTION

[READ] An area of life in which God clearly desires and works redemption is in our sexuality. Just like in the times of the New Testament, our world is filled with sexual immorality and sexual brokenness. As we worship God in these moments, ask the Lord to bring truth, repentance, healing, and mercy into this important and very sensitive area of our lives, and that the church would be a beacon of holiness, love, and delight in the world today.

CALL TO WORSHIP

[PRAY] “Create in me a clean heart, O God. And renew a right spirit within me. Your designs and purposes are so much greater than what the world tells us or offers us. That is perhaps no where more true than in the area of sexuality. Father, you have created us, male and female, you have created us, in your image. That image has been marred by sin. At times, we confess, it feels beyond repair. Jesus, we confess in faith your desire to redeem our sexuality, to forgive, to grant self-control, to love our brothers and sisters, to show us a better way. Holy Spirit, help us honor Christ in our bodies, Amen”

Ref. Psalm 51

MARCH 22

in Worship |

The purpose of this resource is to walk your family, Community Group, or a few friends through a gospel liturgy in your home. It will feature some of the elements we would normally have in a service. Pick someone to do the prayers and readings or take turns…the main thing is to participate in, and be shaped by, all the elements below.

INTRODUCTION

[READ] God is Creator and has created the entire universe to reveal his glory. God also uses the Bible, His Word, to reveal to us in a special way what he is like and how he is at work in the world. In a sense, we could say that His Word…Spirit-inspired ink on paper, is the most treasured piece of “technology” humans have, for through it we come to see and know Jesus, our Savior. Follow along with us today as we reflect on how all of us can use technology for God’s redemptive purposes.

CALL TO WORSHIP

[PRAY] “Lord Jesus, today we are scattered across the Lake Region and yet we are united by your Spirit. Together we pray for the continued healing and care for all those affected and isolated by the coronavirus outbreak. Father, grant peace to those filled with anxiety and fear. Use your church to be a burning light of hope and sacrificial love to the world around us during this time. Holy Spirit, help us experience your presence, we ask in Jesus’ name, Amen.”

PSALMS READING

4 Some wandered in desert wastes,
finding no way to a city to dwell in;
5 hungry and thirsty,
their soul fainted within them.
6 Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,
and he delivered them from their distress.
7 He led them by a straight way
till they reached a city to dwell in.
8 Let them thank the Lord for his steadfast love,
for his wondrous works to the children of man!
9 For he satisfies the longing soul,
and the hungry soul he fills with good things.

Ref. Psalm 107:4-9

DISCUSSION GUIDE

WORSHIP PRAYER

“Jesus, thank you for knowing the depths of our souls. You know our greatest needs and our inmost desires. Forgive us Lord for looking to other things to satisfy us, even when we know that true satisfaction only comes from you. We come to you today in worship. You show us we are fully loved and known even though we sin against you. Despite the unknowns the last couple weeks have brought, you hold our fear and you give us hope. We worship you because even though the circumstances around us change and challenges arise, you Lord stay the same and continue to meet us in them. Satisfy us today, Lord. Thank you that we have access to you, the living God, through Christ Jesus. Amen.”

REFLECTION AND RESPONSE

Take a few minutes to be quiet before the Lord. Thank the Lord for creating you in his creative image. Ask the Spirit to help you redeem your use of technology to glorify God. How might you commit to better using your technology and your time for God’s Kingdom in the weeks ahead?

BENEDICTION

“And now may we guard the deposit of the gifts God has given us and use them to glorify Jesus. May we avoid the irreverent babble, contradictions, and false knowledge we encounter. May we hold fast, unswerving, to the faith, and may God’s grace be with us today, Amen.
