But for the believer in Jesus Christ, spiritually we have died, and we have been raised already to a new life. Though physically we are very much alive, spiritually there has been a death. As Paul says in Romans 5, the old man has died. We have died to the power of sin Paul tells us in Romans 6:14. We have died to the penalty of sin which is death, and have been given new life. And yes, as those who are in Christ, crucified with him we have been set free from sin, death, and law. Because we are connected in a living way with the life, death, and resurrection of Christ, we are dead and forever free from the demands of the law.
